The challenge
The original installation had tiled directly onto cement board with no membrane. Water had been tracking into the joists for at least two years.
What we did
We opened the ceiling below, sistered two compromised joists, then rebuilt with a bonded sheet membrane, a linear drain and a flood test held for 24 hours before a single tile was set.
Outcome
Five weeks including the structural repair. The flood test photograph went into the handover pack.
